Evergreen Award™ Winner 2014!

It’s been a great Evergreen Award™ reading year in 2014 – there were many people reading along, and coming out to our Evergreen author visits. But the big question is…who was the final pick by Ontarians as their chosen winner?

First, though, we should begin with the book that received the most votes right here in Stratford. While it was a close four-way finish, the one that came out in top place according to readers from the Stratford Public Library was…
An Inquiry Into Love and Death by Simone St James!

This romantic ghost story set on the English coast really appealed to our readers.
But the overall Evergreen Award™ winner, chosen by all Ontario readers, was
The Painted Girls by Cathy Marie Buchanan!

This historical novel following 3 young French sisters in the ballet, who inspire Degas, was a big hit across the province. If you haven’t read it yet, there are copies in the library for you to investigate. And if you have read it, you may be interested in some other novels that have been inspired by real-life artists as well.
The nominees for the new 2015 Evergreen Award™ will be announced at the end of January, so keep your eyes and ears on this space for that list to be shared early next year.
In the meantime, if you’re trying to think of the perfect gift for a reader in your life, why not consider a copy of either one of this year’s Evergreen winners, The Painted Girls or An Inquiry Into Love and Death, all wrapped up prettily with a tin of Stratford’s own Evergreen Tea? (created by Distinctly Tea, 18 York Street, this gently smoky green tea is now being sold around the province to all Evergreen Award™ participating libraries as well!)

Happy Holidays, and we wish you lots of relaxed reading time this year!
